Nugent, FJ, Comyns, TM, Burrows, E, and Warrington, GD. Effects of low-volume, high-intensity training on performance in competitive swimmers: a systematic review. J Strength Cond Res 31(3): 837-847, 2017-The purpose of this systematic review was to examine the extent and quality of the current research literature to determine the effects of low-volume, high-intensity training (HIT) on physiological performance and swimming performance in competitive swimmers. The methodology followed the preferred reporting items for systematic review and meta-analysis protocol. A search of relevant databases and conference proceedings was performed until December 2015. The inclusion criteria were (a) competitive swimmers, (b) ≥4 weeks HIT intervention, (c) comparison group had to involve a higher training volume, (d) outcome measures of physiological and swimming performance, and (e) all experimental study designs. Quality assessment was performed using the Quality Index checklist. Results indicate that of the 538 studies retrieved, 7 studies met the inclusion criteria. Six of the 7 studies found that an HIT intervention resulted in significant improvements in physiological performance. Four of the 7 studies found that HIT resulted in significant improvements in swimming performance, whereas none of the 7 studies resulted in a reduction in physiological or swimming performance. Despite the positive findings of this review, the short study duration is a limitation to a number of studies. The current evidence on the effects of HIT on performance is promising; however, it is difficult to draw accurate conclusions until further research has been conducted.

Effects of Training Load on Some Hormonal, Hematological and Biochemical Profile of Male Cyclists
Hematological profiles of cyclists fluctuates are based on the volume/frequency/intensity of training. The present study examined the effects of training load on the cyclist’s biochemical profile which may be associated with over training. Twelve male cyclists volunteered to participate in this study. The participants completed a systematic training program which was divided into four phases i....
متن کاملEffects of transcranial direct current stimulation on pain intensity in patients with chronic low back pain: a systematic review of literature
Introduction: Low back pain (LBP) is common musculoskeletal disorder in today’s societies, which lead to inducing chronic pain and consequently pathological changes in brain function in most of the patients. Therefore, using effective intervention for controlling chronic pain in patients with LBP is very important. According to the evidence, some studies indicated that pain intensity is decreas...

Background: This systematic review aimed to investigate the effectiveness of proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation(PNF) training on back pain intensity and functional disability in people with low back pain (LBP).Methods: Totally, five electronic databases, including PubMed/Medline (NLM), Scopus, Google Scholar, PEDro, andCochrane Central Register of Controlled Clinical Tr...
متن کاملFactors determining swimming efficiency observed in less skilled swimmers.
The dynamics of performance in professional sport requires a systematic improvement of the training process. Such activities should also include optimizing the children and youth training in these disciplines, where an early specialization operates. The main aim of this paper was to search for the relationship between swimmer's segmental kinematics (segmental velocities, stroke rate, stroke len...
متن کاملThe Effect of Low Volume High Intensity Interval Training on Sarcolemmal Content of Fatty Acid Transport Proteins (FAT/CD36 and FABPpm) in Young Men
High-intensity interval training (HIT) induces skeletal muscle metabolic and performance adaptations that resemble traditional endurance training despite a low total exercise volume. On the other hand, fatty acid oxidation is increases in skeletal muscle with endurance training. This process is regulated in several sites, including the transport of fatty acids across the plasma membrane. The...
